These Terms apply to Nihongo One Customized lessons and Nihongo One Foundation, provided online by Sena Lux Inc. They apply together with our Fee Schedule, Refund and Cancellation Policy and Privacy Policy.

1. About these Terms

These Terms apply to Nihongo One Customized lessons and Nihongo One Foundation, provided online by Sena Lux Inc. (brand name Nihongo One; “Nihongo One”, “we”). They apply together with our Fee Schedule, Refund and Cancellation Policy and Privacy Policy. The statutory documents we give you under the Act on Specified Commercial Transactions (the summary document 概要書面 and the contract document 契約書面) form part of your contract.

2. Learners and your account

Learners of any age are welcome. If the learner is under 18, a parent or legal guardian must agree to these Terms, enter into the contract and pay on the learner’s behalf, and is responsible for the learner’s account and use of the platform.
For young learners, a parent or guardian should be available during lessons and help the learner join on time.
Each account is for one person. Give accurate information and keep your login details secure.
Packages and lessons are personal and cannot be transferred or shared.

3. Our services

Live online Japanese lessons of 50 minutes with qualified Japanese-language teachers, in 1-to-1, 1-to-2 (two learners who enrol together) or cohort format (3–6 learners).
All online learning materials for your course are included. There is no separate materials fee.
We match you with a teacher and keep the same teacher wherever practical. If a teacher becomes unavailable, we arrange a suitable replacement.
We work hard to help you progress, but we do not guarantee a particular result, such as passing an examination or obtaining a visa or job.

4. Your contract

Before you pay, we give you the summary document (概要書面). Your contract is formed when we confirm your enrolment and receive payment; we then give you the contract document (契約書面).
With your consent, we provide these documents electronically through the platform or by email.
The price, number of lessons and validity period in force when you buy apply to your package for its whole life.

5. Fees and payment

Fees are set out in the Fee Schedule and are payable in advance, in Japanese yen, by credit card, PayPal, Wise or bank transfer.
Payment is due at the time of your application. If you pay by telegraphic transfer or bank transfer (Wise included), payment must reach us within 3 days of your application. We hold your start date and your place in a cohort until then; after that we may release either of them.
Enrolment fee: ¥15,000, charged once on first enrolment. It is ¥0 under the Premium Enrolment Benefit for enrolments paid by 31 December 2026.
No consumption tax is added to our prices. We are not currently registered as a qualified invoice issuer and do not issue qualified invoices (適格請求書).
Promotions apply only as described, within their stated dates, and cannot be exchanged for cash.

6. Packages, activation and validity

Your package starts on the date of your first lesson. If you have not taken a lesson within 30 days of payment, it starts automatically on day 31.
Lessons must be used within the validity period of your package (10 lessons: 3 months; 20: 6 months; 30: 8 months; 40: 10 months; 50: 12 months). Unused lessons expire at the end of that period.
If you hold more than one package, lessons are used from the one that expires first.
For serious illness or hardship you may request one pause of up to 30 days per package.

7. Booking and lesson rules

Book, change and cancel lessons only through the Nihongo One platform.

How to change or cancel a lesson: Only through the Nihongo One platform (your booking page). Messages to a teacher, email or chat do not count. The time recorded by the platform decides.
Changed or cancelled 24 hours or more before the start: Free. The lesson returns to your balance.
Cancelled less than 24 hours before the start: The lesson is counted as used.
You do not join (no-show): Your teacher waits 15 minutes. If you have not joined by then, the lesson is counted as used.
You join late: The lesson ends at the scheduled time.
Problem with your own device or connection: The lesson is counted as used if your teacher was available.
Your teacher or Nihongo One cancels, or our platform fails: Never deducted. We offer a replacement time and extend your package if needed.
1-to-2: one learner cancels late or is absent: The lesson goes ahead with the other learner. Both learners’ lessons are counted as used. If both cancel 24 hours or more before, nothing is deducted.
Cohort lessons: Run as scheduled and are not moved for one learner. A missed lesson is counted as used; you receive the lesson notes and materials.

A cohort starts once at least 3 learners have enrolled. If we cannot start it within 30 days of the planned date, section 7 of the Refund and Cancellation Policy applies.

8. Bonus lessons

Premium Bonus Lessons are a reward for completing a qualifying package, as described in the Fee Schedule. They are added when your last paid lesson is used, must be used within 2 months, have no cash value and are not refunded.

9. Cooling-off, cancellation and refunds

You may cancel within 8 days of receiving the contract document (cooling-off), and at any time during the validity period after that. Refunds are calculated as set out in our Refund and Cancellation Policy, within the limits of the Act on Specified Commercial Transactions.

10. Your conduct

Treat teachers, staff and other learners with respect. Harassment, discrimination or abusive behaviour is not permitted.
Do not record lessons or share recordings without the consent of everyone in the lesson.
Do not arrange lessons or payments with Nihongo One teachers outside the platform.
Do not copy, sell or share our learning materials.

11. Learning materials and intellectual property

All course content, materials, audio and software belong to Nihongo One or its licensors. You may use them only for your own learning during your course.

12. AI learning tools and your data

Some learning tools, such as the Companion, use AI to support your practice. Your teaching is always provided by human teachers.
We use AI processing of your learning data only with your separate consent (a parent or guardian’s consent for learners under 18), which can be withdrawn at any time.
We handle personal data as described in our Privacy Policy. Learning data is stored in Japan.

13. Service changes and interruptions

We may update the platform and maintain it from time to time. If a lesson cannot take place because of a problem on our side, it is not deducted and we offer a replacement. We are not responsible for delays caused by events outside our reasonable control, but in that case you keep your lessons and refund rights.

14. Suspension

If you seriously or repeatedly breach these Terms, we may suspend your account after notice. Your statutory refund rights continue to apply.

15. Liability

We are responsible for damage we cause in accordance with Japanese law. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability where that is not permitted by the Consumer Contract Act, including for intentional acts or gross negligence.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms with reasonable advance notice. Changes do not reduce the price, lessons, validity or refund terms of a package you have already bought, unless you agree or the law permits.

17. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by Japanese law. Disputes are handled by the Osaka District Court as the court of first instance, without prejudice to any mandatory rule that allows you as a consumer to bring proceedings where you live.
