Live online lessons of 50 minutes with a qualified Japanese-language teacher, in three formats. Buy a package of 10 to 50 lessons; the more you commit to, the less each lesson costs. All online materials are included and there is no separate materials fee.

If completed means the package price divided by paid lessons plus bonus lessons — what each lesson works out at once you have used them all. Bonus lessons are added automatically when your last paid lesson is used, must be used within 2 months, and have no cash value. If you cancel before completing the package, no bonus lessons are added. Not available on cohort or 10-lesson packages.

How your package works
- Your package starts on the date of your first lesson. Take your first lesson within 30 days of payment, or the package starts automatically on day 31.
- Lessons must be used within the validity period. Unused lessons expire at the end of it and are not refunded.
- If you hold more than one package, lessons are used from the one that expires first.
- We remind you about 60, 30, 14 and 7 days before your lessons expire.
- If your teacher or the school cancels a lesson, it is never deducted from your balance.
- Packages are personal and cannot be transferred to another person.
- For serious illness or hardship you may request one pause of up to 30 days per package.
Changing or cancelling a lesson

Payment and terms
All prices are in Japanese yen and payment is made in JPY, in advance, by credit card, PayPal, Wise or bank transfer. Payment is due at the time of your application; if you pay by telegraphic transfer or bank transfer, it must reach us within 3 days of applying. No consumption tax is added — we are not currently registered as a qualified invoice issuer (適格請求書発行事業者) and do not issue qualified invoices.
You may cancel within 8 days of receiving your contract document and pay nothing at all. After that you may cancel at any time during the validity period; we refund what you paid less the lessons already used and a cancellation charge capped at the lower of ¥50,000 or 20% of the remaining contract value. How much do online Japanese lessons cost at Nihongo One?
A 50-minute lesson is ¥6,500 one-to-one, ¥5,200 per learner in a 1-to-2 lesson and ¥3,900 per learner in a cohort of 3–6. Buying a larger package lowers the one-to-one price to as little as ¥5,900 a lesson. A 10-lesson package costs ¥65,000 one-to-one, ¥52,000 for 1-to-2 and ¥39,000 in a cohort.
Is there an enrolment fee?
The enrolment fee is ¥15,000, charged once on your first enrolment. It is ¥0 if you enrol and pay by 31 December 2026 under the Premium Enrolment Benefit. From 1 January 2027 the standard ¥15,000 applies.
How long is a lesson?
50 minutes, live online, with a qualified Japanese-language teacher.
Is consumption tax added to the price?
No. The prices shown are what you pay. Nihongo One is not currently registered as a qualified invoice issuer and does not issue qualified invoices (適格請求書).
How do I pay?
In Japanese yen, in advance, by credit card, PayPal, Wise or bank transfer. Payment is due at the time of your application — straight away by card or PayPal, or within 3 days of applying if you pay by telegraphic transfer or bank transfer.
How long do I have to use my lessons?
The validity period depends on the package: 3 months for 10 lessons, 6 months for 20, 8 months for 30, 10 months for 40 and 12 months for 50. The period starts on the date of your first lesson, or automatically on day 31 after payment if you have not taken one. Unused lessons expire at the end of the period.
Can I get a refund if I change my mind?
Yes. You can cancel within 8 days of receiving your contract document and everything you paid is refunded, including the enrolment fee. After that you can cancel at any time during the validity period; we refund what you paid less the lessons already used and a cancellation charge capped at the lower of ¥50,000 or 20% of the remaining contract value.
What happens if I cancel a single lesson?
Cancel through the Nihongo One platform 24 hours or more before the start and the lesson returns to your balance, free. Less than 24 hours before, or if you do not join within 15 minutes, the lesson is counted as used. If your teacher or the school cancels, it is never deducted.
Can I learn with a friend to pay less?
Yes. A 1-to-2 lesson costs ¥5,200 per learner instead of ¥6,500, and a cohort of 3–6 learners costs ¥3,900 each. Both learners in a 1-to-2 package buy the same package size.
What are Premium Bonus Lessons?
Buy a 1-to-1 or 1-to-2 package of 20 lessons or more by 31 December 2026 and complete every lesson, and we add free bonus lessons: +2 on a 20, +3 on a 30, +4 on a 40 and +5 on a 50. They must be used within 2 months, have no cash value, and are not added if you cancel before completing the package.
